Who is responsible
This site is run by Jonathan Berthold, a marketing and revenue consultant based in Montréal, Quebec. I'm the person in charge of protecting the personal information collected here. For questions, requests or complaints, write to hello@jonathanberthold.com.
What I collect
- When you use the contact form: your name and email, plus anything else you choose to add: company, website, the areas and timing you pick, how you heard about me, your message and, for speaking requests, the event or show details.
- When you accept analytics cookies: Google Analytics records how the site is used, such as pages viewed, how you arrived, your approximate location (city level), and your device and browser. It uses cookies and a random identifier. None of this loads unless you click Accept.
- Cookie-free statistics: Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights count page views and measure page speed without cookies and without identifying you.
- Server logs: like any web host, Vercel keeps technical logs (such as IP address, browser and the page requested) for a limited time to run and secure the site.
I don't sell personal information, and I don't use it for advertising.
Why I use it
- To reply to your message and follow up on what you asked about.
- To understand which pages are useful and improve the site (Google Analytics, only with your consent).
- To keep the site running and secure.
Cookies and your choice
The only cookies that aren't strictly necessary are Google Analytics cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID). They load only after you click Accept on the cookie bar. Your choice is saved in your browser, and you can change it at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. If you decline after accepting, the Google Analytics cookies are removed.
Who else handles it
A few service providers help run the site. They process information on my behalf and only for the purposes above:
- Vercel hosts the site and provides the cookie-free statistics.
- Resend delivers contact form messages to my inbox.
- Google provides Google Analytics, only with your consent.
- My email provider stores the messages I receive.
Where it's stored
These providers may store and process information outside Quebec, including in the United States, where it is subject to local laws. I chose them with their privacy and security practices in mind.
How long I keep it
- Contact form messages: as long as needed to reply and follow up, and no more than two years after our last exchange, unless we start working together.
- Google Analytics data: according to the retention setting in Google Analytics, and no more than 14 months.
- Server logs: for the limited period set by Vercel.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. You can withdraw your consent to analytics at any time with Cookie settings. Write to hello@jonathanberthold.com and I'll reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with my answer, you can contact the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.
Security
The site runs on reputable providers over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and only I have access to the messages you send. No system is perfectly secure. If a confidentiality incident presents a risk of serious injury, I'll notify the people affected and the Commission d'accès à l'information.
Children
This site isn't aimed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 14.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with its date.
